I-480 garbage truck fire: I-480 backed up beyond Great Northern Boulevard

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (WJW) – Fire officials responded to a garbage truck fire on Interstate 480, backing up the eastbound traffic near North Olmsted for hours on Friday.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, the two right lanes of I-480 east were still blocked beyond state Route 252/Great Northern Boulevard Friday night. The left lane had reopened.

SkyFOX captured video of the scene Friday afternoon, showing firefighters on the scene of the burning waste management truck.

In an evening update, the North Olmsted Police Department said multiple fire departments responded to extinguish the blaze.

ODOT was reporting traffic delays near an hour at times. Drivers were urged to avoid the area throughout the day.
